Seufz!

In diesem Sinne wünsche ich genussvolle Melancholie.

Better Late than Never!

Prompted by Andre, I make my first entry to this blog.  I participated in the 37th Worldwide Sketchcrawl on October 13th.  We were a small group of just 2!  I'm hoping for a larger group the next time.  We had fun walking through Zürich on a relatively warm day sketching the action of the Weinplatz Market and the view of the Fraumünster:

Windeggstieg, SH

This is one of the gnarliest big old trees I have seen around here.
A bit more to the left the Rhine meanders through the valley, a couple of vineyards dot the flanks, the bridge connects the cantons of SH and ZH and just behind it, the Old Town of Schaffhausen.

Hot Pasta Due, Zurich K4

indoor-sketching: over lunchtime, awaiting my pasta (Ravioli Napoli) in a charming, urban Italian-style restaurant in Kreis 4. It's always risky to draw with sepia ink and I'm scared one day my clothes will be wasted by waterproof color. On the other hand it makes me work consciously and carefully and makes me plan every line I draw.

St. Marien, Basel

I've long wanted to sketch St. Marien church's pointy bell tower, but it was difficult to find a nice view without having to sit in the middle of the street. Luckily there's always another street...

Across the street in SH

The good thing about being sick is that you can sketch all day from the warm comfort of your home. Until swollen sinuses and all that dry coughing gives you headaches.

I am really bummed I missed the 37th Sketchcrawl though.
Next time...

Löwengässchen and Fronwagenplatz

The Löwengässchen in Schaffhausen. I was halfway through this sketch when I realized I could not draw all those windows facing each other at such an extreme distorted perspective. Quite a shame actually, its such a nice alley leading up to some of the nicest facades in town.

The other day, my colleague and I treated ourselves to a hot sunny lunchtime urban sketching session. We shared our marketplace bench with two elderly Spaniards who were talking about wives, sisters, marriage, money, Switzerland and Spain nonstop.
It must have been a strange sight, two younger ladies totally absorbed in their pen and paper work - and two chatty pensioners who would not stop to even catch a breath for a second.

Balsthal and Oensingen

Nice to see new sketchers and the blog expanding to the rest of Switzerland. These are drawings I did I while ago on my way to work meetings – the same route but two different days. The top one shows the road from Oensingen to Balsthal, with the Alt-Falkenstein castle on the left top corner. The second one is a view of warehouses from the train platform in Oensingen.

Zürich, Zeppelinstrasse

Zurich, Zeppelinstrasse, a photo by Andre Sandmann on Flickr.
