Under the elevated road...

... at Heuwaage. I was tempted to only post drawings of Heuwaage this year, but after one month I've started to grow tired of it. So fear not, even if I love the spot, I won't bug you with 52 drawings of the same crossing.

Sketch Crawl in Bern

A single day was too short to meet and get to know all these talented sketchers AND to take some time to draw, especially in such a rich place as this nature & history museum. I look forward already to the next occasion. Thanks again to those who have organize this meeting.

Sketch crawl Bern

my first sketch crawl ever but definitely not my last. I was amazed how many people joined in sketching in January...was not sure for myself but wrapped in several layer's. We were sketching at Bern's market hall. A nice place to eat. If you have the opportunity to try those delicious Mango Lassie you have to hurry as it will be closed in May this year.

Afterwards we headed for the Natural Historic Museum. What a great place to sketch. I have to go there again. Could not decide what to draw first so started at the ground floor and went for the giraffes afterwards. I do now totally agree with fellow sketchers that use to sketch with headphones as for the weekend at least sitting next to the giraffes and the whale or elephant skeletons I had to manage drawing with lots of parents trying to avoid their children to climb onto the exhibits and lots of chatter...did I mention the flashlights... Definitely a great spot but I might revisited during the week :)

38th Worldwide Sketchcrawl

On January 19th, I went to Berne for a lot of sketching with a lot of other Swiss sketchers. Boy, there were much more than I expected, we must have been about 25!

It was a lovely but very cold and wintry day with so much creativity flowing between us all, it was quite mind-boggling.
I caught the train home earlier than the others because I was looking at a 2.5 h trip back, so I did not get to be in the group photo shot at the end of the day (I am pretty sure there was one). It was fantastic to be part of it though and I am looking forward to the next time when it will be warmer as well.

Here we met at the Bundeshaus, astonished at the size of our group:

From there we went on to the Markthalle.

The Markthalle will soon be closed down for renovation. All the little restaurants and shops will have to relocate. The Indian restaurant had very nice food by the way.

I ordered the tea for the intricate tea pot design, not for the tea itself.
I just can't get warmed up towards green tea.

To find shelter from the winter outside, we went to the Museum of Natural History in Bern.

I will need to visit again, there's lots of great stuff and I only was on the ground floor.

One day I would really like to draw or paint this bird in color - it's like a glowing rainbow!

Before you ask - the rhino was exhibited with wooden plates instead of horns.

Final sketch, the only one of a fellow Urban Sketcher.
Next time I will be more ruthless with sketching the people I am with ;-)

Sketchcrawl in Bern

I enjoyed my first sketchcrawl a lot. I'm looking for the next one too!

Sketchcrawl in Bern

I'm happy I took part in yesterday's sketchcrawl in Bern. Being snowy and cold I didn't think much people would show up but to my surprise we were more than twenty. It was great meeting so many avid sketchers from all corners of Switzerland. Watching them sketch, sharing tips and planning future meetups was very inspiring and motivating. Looking forward to the next one.

National Sketchcrawl in Berne

We all met today in Bern, great to meet so many sketchers from all over Switzerland. Frist we were drawing at Markthalle and after in the Historical Natural Museum.

Visit at the Museum

Today I went to the paleontological museum in Zürich. It's always a rather busy place at weekends. Lots of parents showing their kids the animals and explaining where they live and what they do.

So I looked for a quiet spot and sketched some of exhibits while listening to the audio book version of "Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone".

Week 2

For those who don't know Basel, Heuwaage is a junction between the main train station and the city center. There's an elevated road, an underground parking and quite heavy traffic. It's chaotic and not particularly nice, but the merging of streets at different angles and levels makes it very interesting to draw.

Happy 2013!

Happy new year everyone. My new year's resolution is to post at least one sketch a week. And I plan to join the sketchcrawl in Bern and hopefully meet many of you. See you there.

Hi everybody! I am new here. I live in Yverdon-les-Bains. Actually I am more of a live model sketcher, but I would like to improve my skills in urban and rural sketching. I'd really like to participate in a sketchcrawl soon.

J'aime particulièrement faire des croquis pendant mes randonnées au Jura.
I particularly like to draw during my hikes in my beloved Jura.

Et un croquis de la basse ville de Fribourg.

À bientôt!

See you soon!
