Am Sonntag war es noch immer so mild, dass wir ganz gemütlich Möven skizzieren konnten. Und uns freuen, dass wir nicht am Sonntagsverkauf teilnehmen mussten...

Sauwetter und Stadtlichter

Oh besinnliche Weihnachtszeit- ich brauch eine Auszeit! Ich muss gestehen ich habe eine Schwäche für Kaffeebecher in der Größe von kleinen Schwimmbecken, Kaffeeschlürfen, ausspannen und ein bisschen zeichnen.

Es ist dunkel und nasskalt. Man steht sich schon an der Haltestelle auf den Füssen – wenn man im Trockenen warten möchte. Alle möchten Bus fahren. Heute auch die Velofahrer. Aber der Bus kommt nicht. Irgend ein Problem zwischen Albisriederplatz und Goldbrunnenplatz, sagt der Lautsprecher. Schönen Dank – Rückstau bis an die Langstrasse. Dann endlich, er kommt, zu spät und viel voller als sonst. Man steht Ellbogen an Ellbogen – wie wenn man nicht schon genug gestresst wäre, knapp vor Torschlusspanik an Weihnachten. Am Limmatplatz ergattere ich trotzdem einen Platz und packe mein Skizzenbuch aus.

Heute morgen im Zug nach Zürich. Ich war genauso müde wie der Pendler mir gegenüber. Der hatte für sein Nickerchen die Ruhe weg und legte, damit ihn niemand störte, sein GA sorglos für den Schaffner zur Kontrolle aufs Tablar.

Als ich heute vom Spazieren nach Hause kam, war es schon dunkel und auf der Strasse (!) brannten Feuer.

Hier gibt's dann Quartierfondue, in der Länggasse, Bern.

Es regnete, deshalb zeichnete ich ganz schnell mit weichem Bleistift.

URBAN SKETCHERS CELEBRATES FIVE YEARS OF ON-LOCATION SKETCHING AND STORYTELLING

Seattle, WA, 06 December 2014 – Urban Sketchers.org, a non-profit organization, is celebrating its fifth anniversary since incorporating on December 6, 2009. Its mission is to promote on-location sketching and to connect people around the world who enjoy urban sketching. Wildly successful, the international community of urban sketchers is estimated at 50,000+ and almost 14 million page views on the Urban Sketchers (USk) blog.

Seattle-based journalist and illustrator Gabriel Campanario launched the group in 2007 by creating an online community of urban sketches on Flickr.com. Sketchers scan their drawings and share them on the group’s Flickr site, Facebook page or blog. The idea went viral. So far communities of sketchers have formed 60 regional chapters in 29 countries.

"Urban Sketchers is growing because sketchers are finding each other where they live and travel.” says Membership Director, Jessie Chapman. “Members are building relationships and communities with people who share the same interests, both online and at our events."  

USk raises the artistic, storytelling and educational value of location drawing with workshops and events held all around the world. USk has organized five international symposiums in Portland, USA; Lisbon, Portugal; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Barcelona, Spain and Paraty, Brazil.

The 2015 Symposium will be held in Singapore July 22-25. Organizers expect 250+ attendees from around the world.

“Artists of all ages and skill levels have stories to tell,” says founder Gabi Campanario. “Urban Sketchers is a free group that provides a platform for them to renew their love of drawing and to learn more about storytelling.”

Hiking the Hoodoos

I am just back from a short but fantastic trip hiking the canyons of Arizona and Utah.  We started off in Sedona where we met this most amazing color red

 

From there we went on to the largeness of the Grand Canyon. Such an amazing space and color that I have a hard time defining!

 



 

We drove throught Navajo country and the painted desert on our way to Zion.  I even drove on Rte. 66 in Flagstaff (well, just for 2 blocks, but still!)

 



 

Zion Canyon was small by comparison, but great because we could hike right down in it, along the river to the narrows, touching the great walls of red.  We stopped for lunch at the Emerald Pools.  Well, I guess they are emerald in the summer...

 

 

Our final destination was Bryce Canyon.  This was the highlight of our trip where we hiked the hoodoos.  They are amazing things.  We could look at them all day and see so many different figures.

 

 

Every day I wished I had more time to spend painting these fabulous colors.  In any case, I would definitely recommend going in November.  A little cold but not too many people.
