Near Dreirosenbrücke

This is definitely not the nicest spot along the Rhine, but it's quiet and there are free benches to sit on. I'm not very picky...

Weekend in the Mountains

We spent a quiet weekend in the mountains.  No hiking for me this time, just recuperating.  Another 4 weeks.

Spring has started up there too.  Lovely greens, but also a bit of rain.  This view from our garden.

Petra (in Basel)

Mai. http://www.antikenmuseumbasel.ch/

Waiting at the airport

A busy week and terrible weather again. This quick sketch of my fellow passengers waiting to get on board at the Basel Airport will have to do this time.

21.4.13

waiting for the train at Basel SBB

17.4.13

Vieille gare / Alter Bahnhof

Shopping

I have noticed that shopping is much less boring with a sketchbook.

Zürich Wipkingen

As you guys were drawing great views of Basel, I was sketching some less ambitious junk in my neighborhood...

Munot Tower

As I was leaving from Pilates, I had 10 minutes at the bus stop with a view of the Munot Tower.

I whipped out the Mini-Moleskine and the 0.05 Pigma Micron I still had in my bag from last Saturday's sketchcrawl and completely messed up the perspective of the tower roof.

Also, I must say it is quite unsatisfying when getting the image converted into a bloggable file of pretty data takes more time than than making the image itself.

I am just thankful that I can at least paint the sky from memory. ;-)

PS: I need to reread Perspective for Artists again, it explained the perspective of turret roofs so well.

39th Worldwide Sketchcrawl, Basel

I was happy I could postpone a previous appointment on Saturday and join the Basel Sprint-Sketchcrawl. As my fellow sketchers have already reported, we had a great time and beautiful weather. There was only time for a small tour from Barfüsserplatz to Kaserne, but it was enough to catch up with the others and (finally) meet Boris, one of the founders of the Swiss Urbansketchers blog and with whom I had been in email contact for almost two years. Looking forward to the next one.

Let's do this again, on a day like this!

39th Worldwide Sketchcrawl, Basel

It was very nice we all met in Basel, nice to get to know new faces behind the drawings of our blog. And – compared to 38th sketchrawl – where it was rainy and freezening cold, we enjoyed a nice warm spring day sketching together. Let's do that again, on a day like this!

13.4.13

39th Worldwide Sketchcrawl, Basel

It was a lovely and sunny sketchcrawl with a very comfortably sized group of people and the perfect way of celebrating the weekend, sketching, and the first warm sunshine!

The only stupid thing was when I tried to pour the excess paint-water from my palette into the street drain and two of my watercolour pans went down as well. Luckily the local sketchers knew where the next art supply shop was!
Teaches me right. :-) I will never do such a thing again.

13.4.13

Sketchcrawl of a different kind!

I had many good intentions to sketch with the group in Basel but was stopped by a little inconvenience!  I had to be satisfied with the view out the window:

<

I 'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's sketches as finally today we had a little bit of sunshine!  Next time I'll definitely be out drawing!

12.4.13

11.4.13

Food and Exercise

Last night a couple of my colleagues met up for Japanese dinner in Zurich. It was so delicious it made me want to go travel to Japan and explore food, people and country right away. Mmmmmh!

Of course, after so much nice food, some exercise was in order today.

I needed to work some overtime, so it did not make any sense to go anywhere in between work and Pilates class. It took about 20 minutes to half an hour to sketch the view from the entrance to the Pilates studio. I would have loved to have enough time for some watercolor on this but for several reasons this will have to stay as it is.
The main one being that I am too tired now. ;-)

11.4.13
