Lanzarote by foot

Last week, my friend and I where trecking from Orzola (in the North) to the "new" lavastream near Tinajo. Great landscape, friendly people (very few!), a lot of space. No rivers or fountains - but every day, we found a shop, petrol station or bar where we could buy water. The agriculture is special because of this lack of water: Walls and terrasses help to keep the soil on place. Farmers cover the fields and gardens with small lavastones, so in the night, when the air from the sea is damp, they absorb the humidity like a sponge. Most houses can collect rainwater from the roof or court in a cistern. And many fields are in the middle a village. Probably for shorter waterways?
Busstation in Arrecive. Complicated for newbies, but you can go almost everywhere.

Arrieta, Water in an 8L-bottle. What we 2 hikers needed in 24 hours.

Isola la Graciosa

Little farms near Haira. The black fields are those with lavastones.

A small waterhouse in the desert. Just in case it would rain one day... The cistern was empty.

But in gardens and agriculture, the plants  were bright green, nearly shining on the black soil. The whole way was full of beauty. And the onions we bought were as big as oranges.

43rd Worldwide Sketchcrawl in Neuchâtel

...or the 3rd National Swiss Sketchcrawl :-)

After about an hour of sketching at the chateau we went to have lunch at a lovely warm crêperie. We were so glad to get warmed up a bit after sketching in the freezing wind outside.
Afterwards, we went to the Neuchâtel Museum of Natural History for some more sketching and finally we all met up at the Confiserie Schmid.

43. Sketchcrawl in Neuchâtel

As one can guess, Easter Saturday brought cold and a bit of rain to our National Sketchcrawl.  We still enjoyed sketching the beautiful (even in bad weather) city of Neuchâtel.  Here a view of the rooftops above the city:

We sketched until we froze and had to flee to the warmth of the Natural History Museum where we saw a very interesting exhibition:

Then of course a quick photoshoot at the cafe as I had to catch my train.

Not as many sketchers as usual but still a good group.  Looking forward to the next time we can get together to sketch, hopefully not on a holiday weekend!

Mellingen der Frühling ist da

Herrlicher Zwangstop in Mellingen

From our brief "Illustratorenstammtisch" this week. The topic was cats, but I ended up sketching the table watching football next to us.

Immer Hin und Her

big and small things

When I walk to the train station, I can always admire this pink, very decorated building. Once I was inside, looking a room for a flat share, but I didnt get it. There is also a quite big terrace , shared from all inhabitants of the house, on the roof! Bern, Hallerstrasse 1
